Kingscote Football Club began after a meeting in the Queenscliffe in 1908. Original colours were red and blue and as the 'Norwoods' they played social games against teams such as the Wallabies, Centrals and of course Dudley United, who were founded that same year. Although footbal had been played on the Island for many years previous, this fledgling assocation, soon joined by Wisanger, provided the basis for the current Kangaroo Island Football League formed in 1951. Kingscote has played against and seen many teams come and go, like Creek Bay, Salt Lake, United and Nepean Bay, witnessing many changes along the way, including their colours to the present day red and black. Sadly much of the Club's early historical records have been lost or not kept, although glimpses can be found in copies of the old local paper, The Courier. There have been many highs and lows in the Club's long journey, the 1974 season certainly a 'high' with premierships in all grades, and the Hounds remain the only club to achieve this feat. 1977 saw the construction of the existing clubrooms, thanks in good part to the inspirational Frank Eagle and the efforts of many. The club provided another asset the community in 1999 with the addition of four light towers and the introduction of night games to the island. Although a team sport, individual accolades also provide highlights for any club, few rivalling Roger Williams amazing 7 Mail Medals. Recent seasons have seen the A Grade very competitive, their last grand final appearance in 2010 and the last flag in 2002. The Club's strength has been in its youth, the senior colts rerebuilding after an unprecedented 6 flags straight. A club is however, the sum of all its parts, and while we salute all its playing champions of now and times gone by, we also play tribute to those who have filled a role, however minor, whether it is manning a scoreboard, serving the hotdogs or as Club President. As an example we need look no further than Head Trainer Geoff Magarey, a club legend and inspiration to all.
